Family and Consumer Sciences

The Extension Family and Consumer Sciences program in Otero County is committed to providing resources to assist families and individuals with today's complex issues.

Home Food Preservation

Current research-based information is available for individuals who want to learn about methods for preserving food for their own use. Methods include freezing, dehydration, water bath canning, and pressure canning. We provide workshops, fact sheets, and answers to questions on how to preserve the freshness of homegrown or locally purchased foods.

Current fact sheets and recipes can be downloaded from the Food & Nutrition Publications website. For more information or questions regarding food preservation, call 575-437-0231 or send an email to Kelly Knight.
